prosody16
open submission
Hello artist
The motivation behind “prosody16” is to invoke the voice of the artist in a physical way through a recorded conversation (audio only). What is voiced in the recorded conversation—images & words—will be developed & made into a screenprinted 16 page A4 zine.
This is an opportunity to not rehash current tendencies, but to explore new ideas & territories beyond the established preserve of the artist. I am fostering & willing into being, into voice, an aesthetics of risk, the dark register that torments & expands the consumerist & digitised image of the artist & their work via the solicitation of viscerally awkward images & words where fantasy & dream-logic run riot. rip David Lynch.
The process will involve a recorded conversation that will voice the deep recesses of the artist's work & confront the temporal & spatial setting in which their work inhabits or resists, from white cube to kitchen table to bedroom. No pre-conversation questionnaire or post-editing of conversation will take place. The voice of the artist will remain intact, awkward & human.
This is a DIY non-profit endeavour.
*The first episode features artist Nikki Foster, whom I thank for being the first, and for being so open in terms of the the history and motivations that led to taking this photograph of her daughter, Eppie, and her reflections on being an artist in the lifeworld of motherhood. Listen here
